What is Colonic Therapy
What can it do?
Colonic Therapy, also known as Colonic Irrigation or Hydrotherapy, is the use of warm filtered water to cleanse the large bowel or colon. This practice (which dates back to 1500BC), helps to eliminate stored faecal matter, gas, mucous and toxic substances from the colon. A personal cleansing programme incorporating Colonic Hydrotherapy can result in clearer skin, increased energy, greater mental clarity, fewer headaches and circulatory, immunity and weight problems often improving over time. Whilst also helping to re-tone and reshape the colon.
Benefits of Colonic Therapy

The Colon
The colon is situated in the abdomen and is the part of the large intestine, which extends from the caecum to the rectum. It has four segments:

1. Ascending colon |
Its functions include the completion of the digestive process, involving absorption of water-soluble nutrients, as well as the synthesis of certain vitamins.
The colon is a major part of the excretory system responsible for eliminating food and other body waste, and it protects us from infection and disease. To aid this process billions of friendly bacteria inhabit the colon and make up to 70% of the dry weight of the faecal waste. However its balance can be disturbed by several factors including stress; pollution; electromagnetic influences; poor food and drink choices; certain drugs; smoking and exposure to toxic substances. This imbalance may result in a decrease in transit time of food through the body, which can have repercussions throughout the body, resulting in a wide range of health problems. Colonic Hydrotherapy can help to redress this imbalance.

Your Appointment
Prior to your initial appointment you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire, which will be reviewed during your nursing assessment at the beginning of your appointment.
You will then receive your Colonic Therapy, which will take 30 to 45 minutes. This involves small quantities of warm filtered water being introduced into the colon at low gravitational pressure, painlessly via the rectum, whilst your abdomen is gently massaged to assist in the release of faecal matter.
To ensure the highest standards of hygiene, only disposable equipment is used and your modesty is respected at all times.
At the conclusion of your appointment, Anne will draw-up your personalised plan of care. Depending on your needs, this plan may incorporate suggested beneficial modifications to your diet, stress reducing techniques and the prescription of pro-biotic and herbal preparations. The aim of this plan is to aid your return to good health.
How Many Treatments are Necessary?
The number of treatments required can vary from one, to several spread out over a period of months, after which preventative or maintenance treatments may be recommended. After having thoroughly reviewed your health questionnaire at your initial appointment, Anne will be able to advise you of the optimum number for you.
